CLOVERDALE >> Isaia Pena passed for 105 yards and a touchdown while Chris Beecher rushed for 112 yards and two scores as the Northshore varsity youth football team scored the game’s final 39 points in 39-6 victory over Cloverdale in Mendo-Lake Empire Junior Football League action on Saturday night in Cloverdale.

Pena went 4-for-8 passing, including a 43-yard touchdown strike to Billy Pimentel. The Northshore quarterback also ran for a score.

“I’m extremely proud of Isaia Pena,” Northshore head coach Eddie Peregrina said. “We spend a lot of time working on his fundamentals along with skills and drills. I’m very picky on him down to every little detail, and it showed last night. His football IQ for his age is exceptional.”

Jose Beecher carried the ball six times for 63 yards and Liam Walston had a 23-yard touchdown run.

Northshore’s defense also got in its lick as Chase Noble returned a fumble 40 yards for a score.

Cloverdale scored on its first play from scrimmage but never found the end zone again.

“We made a couple of minor adjustments on defense, and we ended up giving up no more points,” Peregrina said. “I’m extremely proud of the group of kids we have. We continue to get more kids involved and grow our team. Most of them will be moving up to high school next year. We have a lot of talent feeding into the high school. With this group right now we have a championship team in the future. There is no doubt in my mind.”

Upper Lake is now 4-1 on the season. The Cougars face a huge challenge next Saturday when they host undefeated Middletown (4-0) at 7:30 p.m. Pee wee action kicks things off at 4 p.m. followed by the junior varsity contest at 5:30 p.m.

“Next week we have a challenge on our hands and the kids are ready to accept the challenge,” Peregrina said. “We lost to Middletown in the playoffs a couple of years ago and it was a close game. They beat us last year and we had a pretty fresh team. They were extremely big and physical last year. This year we are big, have speed and are physical.”
