Grew up in the town of Healdsburg, graduated from Healdsburg High School in 1979, graduated from Santa Rosa Junior College in 1981 and from San Francisco State University in 1984. Worked at the Healdsburg Tribune as a freelancer and later as its first sports editor before interning at the Santa Rosa Press Democrat prior to graduating from San Francisco State. After nearly 40 years at the Record-Bee, with a brief stint at the Cloverdale Reveille as managing editor and sports writer in 2017, I retired from the Record-Bee. I started Lake County Sports on Facebook followed by Brian Sumpter Sports because Lake County has no other high school sports coverage with the Record-Bee’s decision not to replace me as sports editor. I value community sports.
