Sophomore Davis leads Mustangs in preseason competition

ROHNERT PARK >> Middletown High School’s varsity volleyball team went 3-2 on Saturday at the Rancho Cotate Tournament in Rohnert Park.
Middletown finished in a three-way tie for first place in its pool and second in bracket play.
“The girls played very well,” Middletown head coach Erika Galvan said. “We had some illness and injuries, which moved some girls around, and it worked out well. We played some bigger schools and were able to hold our own.”
Emma Davis, a sophomore, led the way with 30 kills, 19 aces and 45 digs.
“She was solid all day long for us,” Galvan said.
Middletown beat Inderkum 20-25, 25-23, 15-6 and Fortuna 25-14, 25-16 and lost to Maria Carrilo 27-25, 25-19 in pool play. In the bronze bracket, the Mustangs defeated Atwater 25-10, 25-23 before losing to Casa Grande 25-16, 25-23.
Several Mustangs turned in solid performances. Along with Davis, Jordyn Harbison finished with 60 digs.
“She did really well reading the ball and adjusting to different hitters,” Galvan said.
Other team leaders were Izzi Hoogendoorn with 24 kills, 38 digs and five aces, Trinity Galvan with 48 assists, 23 digs, five kills and five aces, Hannah Tribby with 14 kills, 10 digs and two blocks, Grace Williams with 11 kills, nine aces, 14 digs and two blocks, Brenna Goodloe with 10 kills and five blocks, and Bridget Lisenbee with 24 assists, 15 digs and seven aces.
“I’m very happy with how hard these girls played,” Galvan said.
