WILLITS >> The Northshore Cougars varsity youth football team finished a 35-0 loss to Willits with few players and even fewer coaches Saturday in Willits.
Clearly frustrated with the officiating, Upper Lake head coach Erik Sperber and two assistants were ejected from a game that was called early because Northshore (0-6) didn’t have enough healthy players to continue.
Northshore’s highlights came on defense where Erik Sperber II had five solo tackles and returned a fumble 15 yards. Grayson Pena led the team with seven solo tackles while Oscar Vasquez added five more.
“I want to thank the players that remained on the field for their never-give-up attitude as there was a lot of emotions being expressed throughout the game,” Northshore assistant coach Frank Gudmundson said.
Willits improved to 2-4 with the win.
Northshore returns home next Saturday to play Middletown.
