Horne passes for two touchdowns in 19-0 victory
WILLITS >> Even with two long touchdown runs called back on penalties, the Westshore junior varsity youth football team improved to 3-0 on the season with a 19-0 victory over Willits on Saturday night in Willits.
Luke Percaccio finished with 81 yards on 12 carries after having another 137 yards wiped out by penalties. He scored one of the touchdown that was called back while Jake Hayes (six carries for 48 yards) also lost a touchdown to a penalty.
Quarterback Pop Horne helped power the Westshore offense by completing 5 of 7 passes for 54 yards and two touchdowns – a four-yard scoring pass to Foxx Crespo in the second quarter and a 17-yard scoring pass to Hayes in the third quarter. Horne also carried the ball twice for 29 yards.
Westshore picked up another touchdown on LJ Hopkins’ punt return in the fourth quarter.
Anchoring the Westshore defense were Aaron Wangberg with six tackles, Hayes with five tackles and a sack, and Crespo and Joseph Szupello, both with two tackles and a sack.
“Our kids have been playing great on both sides of the ball so far this season although the penalties did kill us this week,” Westshore coach Sid Percaccio said. “Now it’s time for the real test this coming week against Middletown (3-0). Our kids will be ready.”
Westshore and Middletown are the only remaining undefeated teams in the junior varsity division of the Mendo-Lake Empire Junior Football League. They collide Saturday in Lakeport beginning at 5:30 p.m.
