WILLITS >> The only thing stingier than Ebenezer Scrooge is the defense of the Westshore pee wee football team, which racked up another shutout win Saturday with a 14-0 victory over Willits in Mendo-Lake Empire Junior Football League action at Willits.

While improving to a league-best 3-0 record, the Westshore defense allowed Willits just nine yards of total offense and has allowed just seven points through its first three games.

“The team played physical football this weekend against a good team,” Westshore coach Vince Rave said. “The defense showed up and played dominant.”

Chance Poland ran for a 25-yard touchdown and had another rushing score called back on a penalty. Vincent Race had the other Westshore score while leading the team with 69 yards rushing. He also ran for an extra point. Adrian Wright had the other extra point.

Rave and Wright each had seven tackles while Poland had six.

“The whole defense played fast and physical football,” Rave said. “We definitely showed up after a long three-week break.”

Westshore faces a key test this coming Saturday at home against Middletown (2-1). Kickoff is 4 p.m. with the junior varsity and varsity games to follow.
