UKIAH >> The Konocti Bay 14s club volleyball team won all three of their matches during a local club tournament last weekend at Mendocino College in Ukiah.
Konocti Bay won all but one set during its three matches.
“My girls were a little slow at finding their rhythm as we have had a lot of missed practices due to illness and for other reasons,” Konocti coach Becky Know said.
Konocti beat Middletown’s A team 25-16, 25-16 in first-round action.
“Our second match was the match where the girls found their groove and were truly challenged to work hard against our Konocti Bay 13s team, who dominated at movement and not backing down from digging up our balls and pushing long rallies,” Knox said. “It was fun to see my girls being challenged by my sister’s (Konocti 13s head coach Sara Hanson) team.”
The Konocti 14s beat the Konocti 13s 25-9, 25-19.
In final-round action, the Konocti 14s edged the Prism of Ukiah 14s squad 25-23, 16-25, 15-9.
“It was a match that truly made my girls work on their coverage due to a few of the Prism players placing the ball to good holes or on the second contact to try and catch my girls off guard,” Knox said.
Added Knox, “It was beautiful to see my girls pull together as a team with confidence and use their skills to play a nearly flawless last set,” Knox said. “What a way to finish the season. I haven’t enjoyed coaching a group of young ladies this much yet in the last five years of my coaching 14s for Konocti Bay volleyball. This group of girls have been nothing but kind and supportive of each other on and off the court and truly embraced each other every practice and tournament both on and off the court.”
