REDDING >> The Konocti Bay 14s club volleyball team placed third in the gold bracket during tournament play Saturday in Redding.
Konocti placed second in pool play before advancing into the gold bracket and finishing third in the 24-team tournament.
“I’d like to commend the team’s perseverance of only practicing a 5-1 rotation one practice before heading to the tournament,” Konocti head coach Becky Know said. “We started out strong, hit a mid-morning slump only to bounce back again.”
Along the way, Knox said Konocti knocked off Butte Elite, a team that plays at a junior varsity level.
“I want to commend my team that consists of only six eighth-graders and the rest seventh-graders and one sixth-grader,” Knox said.
“My setter, Maylee Antoni, is only a seventh-grader but has taken on her setting role with determination, grit and true leadership out on the court,” Knox added. “This team is full of so much skill, but the best part is they are a fun group to coach that truly take on the meaning of being a team, one unit, and help each other grow in confidence on and off the court.”
The Konocti 14s return to action March 21 in Redding.
