Obsidian middle school co-ed soccer team hands Broncos first loss of season

LOWER LAKE >> Kayla Cardenas scored twice as the Obsidian Bears snapped a 2-2 tie in the 63rd minute to beat the Middletown Broncos 3-2 in middle school co-ed soccer action Monday afternoon in Lower Lake.

Obsidian improved to 3-1 in league play while handing Middletown (5-1 league, 6-1 overall) its first league loss and first setback of the season.

“Hard-fought game today against the top team in the league,” Obsidian head coach Andres Hernandez said. “The team fought until the last minute and ended up taking the win.”

Benji Osorio also scored for the victorious Bears while Kenia Garcia and Adrian Perez had assists.

Xavier Yebra and Ryker Gotz scored for the Broncos.

The game was tied 2-2 at halftime.

Both teams return to action Wednesday at 4:30 p.m. Obsidian plays in Upper Lake while Middletown hosts Mountain Vista.
