UPPER LAKE >> The Upper Lake Wildcats handed the Mountain Vista Lancers their first league loss of the season, 6-4, in middle school softball action Monday afternoon in Upper Lake.

Upper Lake scored all of its runs in the first three innings against losing pitcher Maylee Antoni, who struck out five and walked four during her three innings of work.

Mountain Vista (4-1 league, 6-6 overall) had just three hits against Upper Lake pitching, singles by Antoni, Fiona White and Kaelyn Leboy.

“Aubrey Mullen had an absolutely amazing defense game at catcher and got robbed of a base hit but got on base twice for us and really stepped up as our team leader,” Kelseyville head coach David Kennedy said. “We came out flat today and had a bad first inning. We made unusual errors and left the bases loaded. We settled down and had some decent at-bats, but Upper Lake’s defense made some amazing plays that kind of sucked the life out of any rallies we were trying to get going.”

Mountain Vista hits the road to play Obsidian on Wednesday at 4:30 p.m.

Upper Lake statistics weren’t reported.
