Obsidian, Mountain Vista teams advance

Bears, Lancers to play for co-ed soccer championship Saturday in Kelseyville

LOWER LAKE >> Marco Soto scored twice while teammate Adrian Guzman had a goal and two assists as the No. 2-seeded Obsidian Bears shut out No. 3 seed Middletown 3-0 in the semifinals of the Lake County Junior High Athletic League playoffs Wednesday afternoon at Lower Lake High School.

Obsidian will play No. 1 seed Mountain Vista in the championship game Saturday at 11:30 a.m. in Kelseyville. Mountain Vista defeated No. 4 seed Terrace 4-0 in the other semifinal game Wednesday in Kelseyville. Middletown and Terrace play in the third-place game Saturday at 10 a.m. in Kelseyville.

Obsidian took a 2-0 lead into halftime against Middletown before adding an insurance goal in the second half.

“The team showed great personality today,” Obsidian head coach Andres Hernandez said. “They fought for every ball and let their quality shine with excellent teamwork and a positive attitude.”

Scoring in the Mountain Vista vs. Terrace semifinal was not reported.
