KELSEYVILLE >> Cayden Beecher’s triple-double of 26 points, 12 rebounds and 10 steals carried the Upper Lake Middle School A boys basketball team to a 45-37 victory Wednesday in Kelseyville.

“We had quite the competitive match,” Upper Lake head coach Dani Paige Gudmundson said. “We held the lead the entire game, but there were moments when it felt like it could slip away. They made us work for it, which is exactly what we want. It was also very physical.”

So physical, in fact, that the Wildcats lost Junior Peregrina to a broken arm late in the third quarter, the injury occurring during a fastbreak.

“A tough sight for everyone in the gym,” Gudmundson said. “After things settled, the boys huddled up and collectively agreed they were going to win this one for Junior, and that’s exactly what they did.”

Besides the triple-double, Beecher also had five assists. Desmond Solomon added seven points and 11 rebounds while Jose Delgado Beecher had five points, eight steals and four assists.

“There were a few turnovers I could have lived without, but when it mattered most, they played a great game and finished strong,” Gudmundson said.
