Terrace, Obsidian B teams settle for tie after triple-overtime battle

KELSEYVILLE >> Jodeci Meadows scored 16 points on eighth-grade night as the Mountain Vista Middle School A girls basketball team defeated Anderson Valley 36-21 in a non-league game Wednesday in Kelseyville.

Celebrating their final home game of the season, the Lancers struggled in the first quarter but went into halftime leading 15-9. Mountain Vista boosted its lead to 13 points by the end of the third quarter.

Samaya Ellis had eight points for the Lancers, who improved to 12-4 on the season. They close out league play, where they’re 6-1, on Monday in Middletown.

In other middle school girls action Wednesday:

Terrace A 33, Obsidian A 32

At Lakeport, Hayden Perez scored 14 points and Cassie Candelario-Gamez added 12 as the Terrace A team edged Obsidian A in a game where the lead changed hands several times in the final minutes.

“The girls grinded out another win,” Terrace coach Louie Sanchez said. “We’re starting to turn it around just in time. Good team effort again tonight.”

In the B game, Terrace and Obsidian played three overtime periods before the game was declared a 21-21 tie.

“Wow, what a game!” Sanchez said. “I had my top three scorers out with the flu and only had seven to start the game. We played the last two overtimes with only five.”

Alyssa Erlandson scored 13 points and Amelia Vezeu had six for Terrace. Kendra Partida helped out with 10 rebounds and nine steals.

“Both teams battled and played tough,” Sanchez said. “Proud of my girls for battling with a good, tough team. It shows our improvement from top to bottom.”
