WILLITS >> Ava Gamble and Mariah Pruitt each had two hits and two runs batted in to back the pitching of Sophia Gonzalez on Thursday afternoon as the Terrace School Vikings shut out Baechtel Grove 16-0 in middle school softball action at Willits.

Gonzalez blanked Baechtel Grove on just one hit while striking out seven and walking four.

“It was a cold game for a spring sport,” Terrace coach Shady Cerezo said. “Even though our girls were freezing, they were still focused and got the job done.”

Gamble and Pruitt both went 2-for-2 with two stolen bases apiece. Alessandra Zavala went 2-for-3 with a double, RBI and three stolen bases while Amelie Davis and Rilee Sperber went 1-for-2. Davis stole four bases and Sperber’s hit was a double. She also drove in a run.

The Vikings stole 16 bases overall while drawing eight walks and having six batters hit by pitches.

“We worked as a team to get into scoring position,” Terrace head coach Lynn Cruz said. “It’s a determined group of young athletes.”
