KELSEYVILLE >> Trailing 7-2 after three innings and 10-9 going to the bottom of the sixth, the Mountain Vista Lancers rallied for two runs in their final at-bat to beat the Middletown Broncos 11-10 in middle school softball action Wednesday in Kelseyville.
Brooke Poff’s RBI single with the bases loaded snapped a 10-10 tie and capped the walk-off victory moments after Dezzy Anderson’s RBI single tied the game.
“We played so poorly all day, which was frustrating, and to win a game that I thought was pretty much unwinnable was lots of fun,” Mountain Vista head coach Patrick Mick said. “I’m so proud of these girls. What a turn of events.”
Mountain Vista’s eighth-graders were honored during the final home game of the season.
Winning pitcher Madi Byrne pitched a complete game, striking out four. She was backed in the field by the play of first baseman Kiera Mick and catcher Bella Espinoza.
Besides Poff’s game-winning hit, other Mountain Vista hitting leaders were Gabby Keyes (3-for-3, RBI), Anderson (2-for-3, three RBIs), Byrne (2-for-3, two RBIs), Taylor Wood (2-for-3) and Mick (1-for-3, two RBIs).
