KELSEYVILLE >> The Middletown Middle School B girls basketball team is advancing to the championship game of the Lake County Junior High Athletic League postseason tournament after a come-from-behind 26-25 win over the Terrace B team on Thursday at Mountain Vista Middle School in Kelseyville

Middletown overcame a 19-8 halftime deficit to pull out the victory in the semifinal-round game. Terrace hit six 3-pointers in the first half, four in the first quarter, while building a double-digit lead.

“Our defense showed up finally in the second half, chipping away at the Terrace lead,” Middletown head coach Dustin Fults said. “The girls scratched and clawed their way back after getting knocked down in the first half.”

Middletown draws Mountain Vista in the championship game Saturday in Kelseyville. Terrace plays Obsidian in the third-place game.

Emmie Hernandez and Madison Lewis led the Broncos with eight points apiece, and Avery Zolensky had six points.

Olivia Rose’s 14 points powered Terrace while Gracelyn Rose added six.

“We were up 19-8 at halftime and we came out a little too relaxed (in the second half),” Terrace coach Louie Sanchez said. “Middletown played a great second half. We committed too many fouls and got lazy in the fourth quarter. Middletown is a good team, so we can’t being doing that. Hats off to them. They were hungrier and played with a little more urgency in the end.”

Added Sanchez, “I’m proud of my girls.”
