HIDDEN VALLEY LAKE >> Playing on their home course didn’t help the Middletown Mustangs on Thursday during a Coastal Mountain Conference South match at the par-72 Hidden Valley Lake course.
On a perfect day for golf with great course conditions, Sonoma Academy topped the South field with a score of 381 to Technology’s 398 and Middletown’s 401. St. Helena’s team was incomplete.
The day’s results tightened up the CMC South race as Sonoma Academy moved into a tie with Middletown for the conference’s top spot, both teams now 11-4. Technology is 7-8 and St. Helena 1-14.
Sam O’Halloran of Technology won medalist honors with a round of 85. He is the first player other than Middletown’s David Sisson to claim medalist honors this season. Sisson and Sonoma Academy’s Lucca Modica had the next best round after O’Halloran with 94.
Other low rounds went to Sonoma Academy’s Lucas Vaio (95), Technology’s Dilyan Lopez (96), Middletown’s Grant McMillian (99) and St. Helena’s Nick Beck (100).
The South teams return to action Thursday at Windsor, the first 18 holes of the 36-hole CMC South championships that determine individual qualifiers for the North Coast Section playoffs next month. The final 18 holes will be contested May 4 at Valley of the Moon in Santa Rosa. The NCS playoffs open May 11 in Humboldt County.
