UKIAH >> The Team Vibe volleyball team from Middletown, inactive since the fall season, was an emergency fill-in during a club tourney held Sunday at Mendocino College in Ukiah.
“The Mendocino College head coach reached out to me last week because she had a team drop out of their scrimmage,” Vibe head coach Erika Galvan said. “I was able to wrangle up seven girls who haven’t played since the fall season. I have coached them before, se we fell into an easy rhythm. The expectation was just to have fun. We were pleasantly surprised how well we did against teams that have been playing in club season for months. We even won one set against the Konocti Bay 13s, and lost the third set by two (points).”
Team Vibe fell to the Konocti 14s 25-15, 25-16, to Prism of Ukiah 25-12, 25-16, to the Konocti 13s, who beat Team Vibe 23-25, 25-11, 15-13.
“It was fun to see these young girls out there communicating and cheering each other on knowing everyone was very rusty,” Galvan said. “Thanks to Kat (Edmonds) at Mendocino College for reaching out and sharing this opportunity with us.”
