Freshman scores Mustangs’ lone goal in NCL I-opening loss to Wolverines

WILLITS >> Freshman Sophia Perez scored late in the second half, but the Middletown High School girls soccer team fell 2-1 to the Willits Wolverines in the North Central League I opener for both teams Thursday in Willits.
Ally Cherry assisted on the Perez goal as the Mustangs fell to 4-5 overall.
“These girls tried hard to respond to Willits but were unsuccessful,” Middletown head coach Cassi Clark said of the Mustangs’ 13 shots on goal. “On a positive, freshman goalie Rylie Slaight returned after missing the last four games. She held Willits to two goals with 14 saves.”
Middletown returns home Tuesday to play Cloverdale at 5 p.m.
