CALISTOGA >> Zane McAuley’s 23 points helped put Clear Lake High School’s varsity boys basketball team back into the win column Thursday night at the Gene Duffy Holiday Classic in Calistoga as the Cardinals knocked off Buckingham Charter School of Vacaville 64-38.
“We played good defense and kept the pressure on Buckingham Charter by pushing the ball on offense,” Clear Lake head coach Mark Cory said.
AJ Bruch finished with 14 points as the Cardinals improved to 2-3.
“Good win for our team,” Cory added.
Clear Lake draws Summerfield Waldorf of Santa Rosa in the winner’s semifinals Friday night at 8 p.m.

Credo 57, Lower Lake 36
At Cloverdale, Lower Lake stayed close for a half before Credo pulled away to beat the Trojans in the opening round of the John McMillan Holiday Classic at Cloverdale High School.
“We were only down by one at half with a score of 22-21, but in the second half we made a number of turnovers and continued to fail to box out and get much needed boards on both offense and defense,” Lower Lake head coach Anthony Farrington said.
Brody Shields, a sophomore, scored six points to lead the Trojans while senior Ivan DeLeon added five. Jonathan Ventura, Raijhier McKneeley and freshman Noah Hakala all had four.
“We just could not find a rhythm and make baskets in the second half,” Farrington said. “The team had better ball movement tonight, but we just could not finish.”
Lower Lake (1-5) plays Anderson Valley, a 63-53 first-round loser to tournament host Cloverdale, in the consolation semifinals Friday at 5 p.m.
Colusa JV 45, Upper Lake JV 29
At Maxwell, the Upper Lake junior varsity boys team fell 45-29 to Colusa in the opening round of the Maxwell Tournament, which runs through Saturday. Freshman team captain TJ Malicay led the Cougars with 10 points while both Mason Parker and Antario Wyman both had six.
“Defensively we played good, just gave up too many fastbreak points,” Upper Lake head coach Lupeli Faleagafulu said. “Offensively we’re improving every game on our ball movement and finding the open shot, but we’re still struggling with finding offense in the second half.”
