Lancers, Broncos win league openers in middle school co-ed action

KELSEYVILLE >> After falling behind 1-0, the Mountain Vista Lancers scored four goals in the next 15 minutes while beating Upper Lake 4-2 in middle school co-ed soccer action Monday in Kelseyville.
It was the league opener for both teams.
“We were very sluggish for the first 15 minutes, then we played a great 15 minutes,” Mountain Vista head coach Oscar Lopez said as the Lancers improved to 6-3 on the season.
Kelseyville’s Hiliana Rico scored on a free kick from about 25 yards out to tie the score at 1-1.
“It was a beautiful kick,” Lopez said.
Anthony Arias scored a short time later to put Mountain Vista ahead to stay at 2-1, then Erik Gomez headed in an Arias corner kick to make it 3-1. Arias picked up a third assist with a low cross to Rico, who scored her second goal to put the Lancers up 4-1.
Mountain Vista took that 4-1 lead into halftime and continued to attack throughout the second half.
“We just couldn’t put the ball in,” Lopez said.
Upper Lake scored midway through the second half to close to 4-2.
Upper Lake scoring was not reported.
Mountain Vista hits the road Wednesday to play Terrace School in Lakeport at 4:30 p.m.

Middletown 7, Terrace 0
At Lakeport, the Middletown Broncos built a 5-0 halftime leader while cruising past the Terrace Vikings in the league opener for both teams.
Xavier Yebra and Eli Pulido scored two goals apiece for the Broncos (1-0 league, 2-0 overall) while Isaac Delgado, Isaac Hurtado and Roe Kilstrom also found the net. Kilstrom, Xavier Yebra, Andres Yebra and Sophia Perez all had assists.
“Today was a great team win,” Middletown head coach Ernest Pulido said. “From top to bottom the whole roster contributed in some way. Ruben Rincon had a stellar performance in the goal box and got a clean sheet.”
Middletown hosts Obsidian on Wednesday at 4:30 p.m.
