CORNING >> Kaitlin Crow of the CORE Wrestling Club won not one but two crowns Sunday during the Queen of the North all-girls wrestling tournament in Corning where she was unscored upon while taking first in two different weight divisions.

Crow also earned tournament Most Valuable Wrestler honors.

“Her hard work at home and practice is paying off for her,” CORE coach Daniel Hooten said.

While Crow was competing in Corning, 17 other CORE wrestlers kept busy Sunday while winning the team title at the Enter the Den tournament in Ukiah.

“I’m very happy how the kids are progressing,” Hooten said. “They are showing class, grit and a winning mentality when they hit the mat.”

Crow took first in the third-fifth-grade 76-pound division and the third-fifth-grade 83-pound division, going a combined 6-0 with five pins and one technical fall, all while allowing her opponents no points.

“As a coach and an uncle to Connor Lamb, it was priceless to see his joy from getting his first pin and gold medal,” Hooten said. “Based on his performance, it will be the first of many.”

Added Hooten, “Wyatt Hooten took the championship by pinning all of his opponents. Colin Crow is always a very exciting wrestler to watch and always surprises us with something new.”
