Tucker, Garner nail down weight division victories

WILLITS >> Elijah Tucker and Riley Garner of the Gladiator Wrestling Club earned first-place medals Sunday at the sixth annual Bob Colvig Invitational at Willits High School.

Tucker won the 10-under, 77-pound division and also finished second in the 12-under, 70-74 division. He finished the tournament with the most pins of any wrestler.

Garner won the 12-under, 135-pound division.

The Gladiators also collected a second-place medal at the Boardwalk Classic in Santa Cruz, Jayce Hubert winning the 8-under, 71.6-78.8 division.

Other top finishers in Willits were Javanni Alejo, second in the 12-under, 135-pound division, and Sophie Olea, who placed third in the 10-under, 77-pound division and third in the 10-under, 84-pound division. Placing fourth were Alejo in the middle school boys, 120-pound division, Kylie Dugger in the 12-under, 78-82 division, Elijah Lopez in the middle school boys, 100-105 division, and Fatima Rivera-Barbosa in the middle school girls, 85-90 division.

“Everyone wrestled hard,” Gladiators coach Richard Tucker said. “I’ve seen a lot of improvement, but we still have work to do.”
