SAN RAMON >> Kelseyville High School’s wrestling squad placed eighth out of 52 teams on Saturday during the San Ramon Invitational, led by Kaia Calhoun’s second-place medal at 112 pounds and Hayden Brown’s third-place medal at 140 pounds.
“We had some standout individual performances that showcased the talent on the team,” Kelseyville head coach Shane Carl said.
Among the Kelseyville boys, John Carr came in fourth at 285 pounds and Logun Whittle finished sixth at 115 pounds.
“One of the biggest highlights of the day came from Kaia Calhoun, who not only made it to the finals, but did so in an exciting way,” Carl said. “Her performance reflected all the hard work and training she has put in, and it was inspiring to see her really excel.”
Among the Kelseyville girls, Madeline Hayes added a fourth-place finish at 122 pounds, Hannah Bila came in fifth at 235 pounds, and Rebecca Sanchez placed sixth at 192 pounds.
“As a coach, I couldn’t be prouder of what our team has accomplished at this invitational,” Carl said. “The mix of great individual performances and the strong spirit of teamwork has brought home a lot of awards for both our boys and girls teams. This event was not just about competition; it was also a fantastic opportunity for our athletes to see they line up against other kids in our section and support each other, which strengthens our team spirit.”
Kelseyville will honor its seniors Wednesday when it hosts Willits and Cloverdale in a Coastal Mountain Conference dual. Kelseyville’s boys head to the Puma Classic on Jan. 24 in Santa Rosa.
