SACRAMENTO >> The Never Say Die 15s club volleyball team won four out of seven matches Saturday and Sunday during play in the NCVA Power League Regional Championships at the Safe Credit Union Convention Center in Sacramento.

It was the final action of the season for the NSD 15s, who got off to a solid start Saturday by winning three straight matches. They opened tournament play with wins over Red Rock (Redwood City), Golden State (Manteca) and Sand (Santa Cruz) before falling to Red Rock (Alameda).

The team opened Sunday’s action with a loss to FPVC (Elk Grove) before beating Breakwater (Half Moon Bay). The 15s dropped their final match to Encore (Bay Area).

“This weekend we were pretty streaky after the first three games,” NSD head coach Marci Psalmonds said. “Coming off our big weekend in Reno showed a little and we tried to cruise a little. We had to dig deep on a lot of games to get things going. The momentum shifted a lot, and the girls were on an emotional roller coaster, but they pulled it together toward the end of the tourney.”

Added Psalmonds, “Even though we ended on a loss the girls played some great volleyball and did a lot of positive things. Moana Chamberlin had her best game in the last match with 14 Kills. She is going to be one to watch over the next three years from Fort Bragg. Actually, all my players are going to do a lot of great things over their next three and four years. Kelseyville High School has a huge chunk of them, and they are very lucky. They are going to be a team to reckon with for sure.”

The NSD 15s finish the year 27-10 overall.

During the two days in Sacramento, the squad accumulated 159 kills, 269 digs, 56 aces, 144 assists and 14 blocks.

“They are very athletic, competitive, and have great attitudes,” Psalmonds said of her players. “It is going to be fun to watch all these girls blossom and even more fun to watch them play against each other since they have such a tight team bond.”
