SACRAMENTO >> The Never Say Die 15s club volleyball team won two matches and lost two matches during tournament play Sunday at the Capital Sports Center in Sacramento.

“This is the fun part of the year when things are starting to click, but not just for us, for other teams, too,” Never Say Die coach Morgan Psalmonds said. “So games are either going three or 30-28.”

Added Psalmonds, “The girls are leveling up their play so much and it’s exciting to see, even with our team being on the younger side. Our eighth-graders have learned so much and it is showing on the court.”

Never Say Die beat Academy North 15 HP-2 by a 25-19, 21-25, 15-7 final in its first match, then dropped a 30-28, 25-23 decision to North Coast 15 Orange. Aftreshock 15 Red rallied from behind to beat Never Say Die 20-25, 25-21, 15-13, but Never Say Die bounced back with a 29-27, 25-18 win over FPVC 15 Karsyn in its final match.

“Our defense was awesome today,” Psalmonds said. “We made a few physical mistakes when it came to our offense, but I can take those. I’ll take the physical mistakes over the mental ones any day. We can fix the physical errors much easier.”

Added Psalmonds, “I’m really proud of the girls and I’m excited to see where they’ll end up at the end of this season.”
