Club volleyball team goes 4-2 during North State competition in Red Bluff

RED BLUFF >> The Middletown Heat 16-and-under club volleyball team placed second out of 21 teams in the gold bracket Sunday during a North State Volleyball League competition in Red Bluff.
It’s the first time the Heat have reached the championship match in the 16-and-under category.
The Heat opened the day with a second-place finish in pool play, beating Adrenaline Kim 21-14, 19-21, 15-9, losing 21-11, 21-15 to Legacy, and beating IMVC 16-21, 21-14, 15-7.
In bracket play that followed, the Heat rallied past Legacy Kendall 13-21, 21-16, 15-13 and NSVA Megan 21-13, 21-10 before losing 21-8, 21-10 to Legacy Kraft in the championship match.
“The girls had a great day of competition,” Heat head coach Vanessa Davis said. “They remained tough even in intense battles. We lost to the same Legacy team twice in one day. They were tough opponents and really showed out team what we need to work on to break through and win the tournament.”
Outside hitter Emma Davis finished with 37 kills, 23 digs, 27 service points and eight aces. Outside hitter Hailey Williams added 13 kills, 23 digs, 27 service points and eight aces while middle blocker Crystal Duval registered 14 kills, six blocks, 12 service points and seven aces. Also for the Heat, libero Trinity Galvan had 43 digs and four aces, and setter Bridget Lisenbee had 43 assists, six kills and 10 aces.
“Hailey Williams had a standout day,” Davis said. “She was on fire with her serves, going on long stretches of multiple points in a row. She definitely had her best tournament day yet.”
The Heat returns to action Saturday at Red Bluff High School.
