Fort Bragg scores all of its runs in first three innings during league game at Middletown

MIDDLETOWN >> Middletown High School’s varsity softball team honored its seniors before taking the field and dropping an 8-4 decision to the Fort Bragg Timberwolves during North Central League I action Thursday at Middletown.
Brooklyn Wood, Jaylee Doris, Bev Fetters, Taylor Thompson and Leahmya James West were honored during pregame ceremonies.
Both teams scored early on. Fort Bragg (4-7 league, 6-9 overall) led 2-1 after one inning and 5-3 after two complete before pushing its advantage to 8-3 with a three-run top of the third. Middletown (2-9, 5-11) didn’t score again until the bottom of the seventh.
Middletown’s five hits were divided between five players. Chesnie Henry (1-for-3) drove in a run while Fetters, James West, Thompson and Allison Pina all added hits.
Winning pitcher Andrea Escobedo struck out nine and walked three while allowing only one earned run. Losing pitcher Taluelah Madrid surrendered nine hits and two earned runs. She struck out four and walked one.
Middletown remains home Tuesday to face the league-leading St. Helena Saints at 4 p.m.
