SACRAMENTO >> The Never Say Die 15s club volleyball team couldn’t have played much better after running the table Sunday during tournament action at Cal Expo in Sacramento.

The 15s, coached by Marci Psalmonds, not only won all five of their matches, but they beat all five of their opponents in straight sets.

“The team played well in every aspect of the game,” Psalmonds said. “Defensively they had 273 digs and had a lot of touches at the net. Madi Byrne and Jordyn Wurm stepped their game up and were very productive and dominated the net.”

Moana Chamberlin led the NSD kill parade with 47. Olivia Bushey was next with 33 kills followed by Wurm with 21 and Byrne with seven.

“Madi’s play at the net doesn’t show in her stats,” Psalmonds said. “She played great all day long and seemed to always have the right kill or block at the right time to pick us up.”

Added Psalmonds, “Offensively we kept putting the ball away and as a team we hit .330, which is awesome, especially at this age when everyone is still learning and making mistakes. We only had 19 swinging errors out of 227 arm swings.”

A large part of NSD’s success at the net, according to Psalmonds, was because of the team’s setting.

“Our setters, Brooklyn Young and Olivia Arredondo, distributed the ball well to all the hitters,” Psalmonds said.

NSD beat Sanctuary VBC of Sacramento, Xcel VBC of East Bay, Tropical Touch of San Jose, ABV Flash of Berkeley and NCVC of Sacramento to finish 5-0.

NSD also had success at the service line, recording 46 aces. Bushey had 12 of those and Wurm 11.

“I am really proud of the way they all came together today,” Psalmonds said. “Every single player contributed in their own way. and they are all playing as a whole right now. It’s exciting to watch them.”

The 15s return to action April 25-27 in Reno.
