Upper Lake JVs come away with 20-14 win in league opener

WILLITS >> The Willits Wolverines shut out the Upper Lake Cougars 54-0 in the North Central League I opener for both of these varsity football teams Friday night in Willits.
Upper Lake (0-1 league, 0-3 overall) trailed only 7-0 after one quarter, but the Wolverines (1-0, 2-0) had a 28-0 lead by halftime.
No statistics or other details were reported.
Upper Lake’s junior varsity squad did win, beating Willits 20-14 on a Shaun Way touchdown reception late in the fourth quarter.
No other details were reported.
The Cougars are 1-0 in league and 2-1 overall.
Both Upper Lake teams travel to Middletown next Friday. JV kickoff is 5 p.m. with the varsity game to follow.
