SAN JOSE >> Lake County’s 7-on-7 football team, Wickfit!, wrapped up its inaugural season recently during a tournament in San Jose.
Coached by former Lower Lake High School and college standout Hokulani Wickard, the Lake County team, featuring players from Lower Lake, Middletown, Clear Lake and Kelseyville high schools, competed in several tournaments during the season.
“These players showcased their skills and determination at various out-of-county tournaments, stepping up to new challenges and learning every step of the way,” Wickard said. “These games weren’t just about competition, they were about growth, teamwork and the love of the game. For many of these players, it was a first time competing and they played well.”
Wickfit! will return next season, according to Wickard.
“As we wrap up this season, we are filled with pride and excitement for what’s to come,” Wickard said.
Until next year, Wickard is offering off-season training to help athletes continue to develop their skills and to stay sharp.
