Murray sets course record for M’town

Mustang boys, girls win league meet at Clear Lake State Park

KELSEYVILLE >> Senior Quinn Murray set a course record Wednesday as the Middletown High School boys cross country team easily topped the field during a North Central League I cross country meet at the 3-mile Clear Lake State Park course near Kelseyville.

Middletown’s girls also won their division as the league’s teams converged on Kelseyville’s home course.

In the boys division, Middletown finished with 22 points, St. Helena had 60, Cloverdale 81, Kelseyville 82, Fort Bragg 126 and Willits 16. All other schools were incomplete (fewer than five runners).

In the girls division, Middletown had 21 points to St. Helena’s 44 and Kelseyville’s 57. Everyone else was incomplete.

Boys

Murray won the boys race in 19 minutes, 45.8 seconds, a full 24 seconds ahead of teammate and runner-up Ren Ueno (20:09.8). Gael Lopez of Cloverdale finished third in 20:28.8, Diego Sanchez of St. Helena was fourth in 20:41.7, and Bryan Sanchez of Middletown rounded out the top five at 21:14.61.

Two other top-10 finishers, both from Middletown, were Isael Haro, sixth in 21:17.98, and Logan Ramos, eighth in 21:53.67.

Gerardo Garcia had Kelseyville’s top time as he placed 12th in 22:23.63 while teammates Salvador Ramirez (22:45.3) and Joshua Fossa (22:45.93) were 14th and 15th, respectively. Middletown’s Landon Pisaro was 13th in 22:39.77.

Girls

Corinna Schlatter of St. Helena won the girls race in a course-record time of 20:44.2, well ahead of runner-up Elizabeth Silva of Cloverdale at 23:283. Malia McGrath of Cloverdale came in third in 24:14.3.

Middletown runners Cat Barriga (24:50.8) and Jennifer Jimenez (26:01.74) rounded out the top five, with teammates Nala Montgomery (26:55.04) and Bailey Smith (27:00.62) placing sixth and seventh, respectively.

Kelseyville’s Aylin Aguilar also cracked the top 10, taking ninth in 28:15.94 while Middletown’s Lupita Cabrera was 10th in 28:24.14.

Other top Lake County finishes went to Kelseyville’s Yuriana Montero, 12th in 30:01.46, and Lorena Pantaleon, 14th in 30:58.57.

Liala Kindle of Clear Lake was 30th in 38:52.0.

Schedule

NCL I teams take next Wednesday off before returning to action Wednesday, Oct. 2 at Willits.
