CLHS alumni play in CR’s 16-13 loss

Corsairs open season with home game against Sacramento City

EUREKA >> Clear Lake High School alumni saw plenty of action Saturday for College of the Redwoods football in a season-opening 16-13 loss to Sacramento City in Eureka.

Sophomore running back Hank Ollenberger (Class of 2024) was the Corsairs’ top rusher and top receiver. He carried the ball 23 times for 44 yards and also had two catches for 41 yards.

Sophomore tight end Cody Hayes (Class of 2024) had a team-best four catches for 23 yards, and wide receiver Saul Reyes (Class of 2024) caught three passe for 24 yards.

College of the Redwood (0-1) scored on a Ja’ Ere Alexander 2-yard run and a Christian Solomona 6-yard interception return.

Sacramento City (1-0) led 10-0 after one quarter, 10-6 at halftime and 16-6 through three quarters.

The Corsairs turned the ball over three times to Sacramento City’s two.

College of the Redwoods travels to Foothill (0-1) next Saturday with a 6 p.m. kickoff.
