LAKE COUNTY >> North Central League I football champion Kelseyville High School dominated the selections on the 2024 edition of the All-County football team as picked by Lake County Sports.
Most valuable players for the 9-2 Knights, who won eight straight before losing to Del Norte 13-12 in the opening round of the North Coast Section playoffs, are senior end Jayden Teabo on defense, and senior quarterback Brock Barrick and junior running back Michael DeJohn on offense.
Kelseyville ran the table in NCL I action, going 8-0, and the play of Teabo on defense and Barrick and DeJohn on offense was partially responsible for that.
Teabo was a disruptive force as a run defender and pass rusher, a clear-cut choice for the award. Barrick, playing his second year at quarterback for the Knights, set personal bests in both passing (1,518) and rushing (507) yardage. He threw for 13 touchdowns with only four interceptions, and ran for four more scores.
DeJohn’s playing time increased exponentially when starter Max Hommer was lost for the season because of an injury in the Knights’ first game, and with injuries to Kelseyville’s other starting running back, Kyle Watkins, DeJohn picked up the slack and then some, rushing for 1,270 yards and 16 touchdowns, both team bests. He also was the team’s second-leading receiver with 21 catches for 268 yards.
Joining Teabo, Barrick and DeJohn on the All-County team are 10 other Knights, including the aforementioned Watkins, who despite his injuries still forged a solid season with 1,033 rushing yards and 15 TDs, and a team-best 463 yards and five TDs.
Kelseyville offensive linemen Adam Astrup, Alexis Martinez, Milez Giambra, Landon Johnson, Elijah Watkins and Daniel Anderson-Reyes also been named to the All-County team along with linebackers River Calhoun, Jeffery Ballard and Adrian Garcia.
Middletown
Middletown battled major injuries to key personnel all season long but still finished 4-4 in the league standings and 5-5 overall in head coach Bill Foltmer’s 40th and final season.
Middletown All-County players include its dynamic running backs, junior Trenton Griffith and freshman Tyler Galamay, senior middle linebacker Jacob Pullman, senior linebacker Kelby Shook, junior defensive back Hayden Xavier, junior quarterback Blake Costlow and junior wide receiver/defensive back/kicker Jon Hawkins.
Upper Lake
Bouncing back from a one-win season in 2023, the Upper Lake Cougars finished 3-5 in league and 4-6 overall. More importantly, they were competitive in nearly all of their games.
Earning All-County honors for the Cougars were senior fullback/linebacker Jonathan Barnes, sophomore wide receiver/defensive back Jubilee Faalelea, junior tight end/defensive end Billy Stillman and senior lineman Kaiwinabax Duncan-Monlo.
Clear Lake
After a three-year run of great football, the Clear Lake Cardinals struggled through a rebuilding year in 2024, finishing 2-6 in league and 2-8 overall.
Among the bright spots for the Cardinals were All-County selections AJ Bruch, the team’s junior quarterback, senior wide receiver Adrian Truby, and junior lineman Ryken Villanueva.
Lower Lake
The Trojans started strong, winning their first three games, including their league opener at Cloverdale, but never found the win column again in 2024.
All-County players for Lower Lake are senior running back/defensive back Zakai Vilmenay and senior lineman Vincent Wilson.
Coach of the Year
Leo Flores of Kelseyville and Bill Foltmer of Middletown are the co-Coaches of the Year. In his second and final season as the Knights’ head coach, Flores led the Knights to an undefeated league championship and a second straight trip to the sectional playoffs. Foltmer closed out his 40th season at Middletown with a 46-0 win over Upper Lake, the 314th victory of his illustrious coaching career and his 295th victory since taking over Middletown’s program in 1985.
When the 2025 season opens in August, Kurtis Woodward (Middletown) and Logan Barrick (Kelseyville) will take over on the sidelines for the Mustangs and Knights, respectively.
