Squad closes out summer season with second consecutive under-18 tourney championship

RENO >> Claiming their second tournament win in a row to close out the summer season, the Lake County Bass under-16 softball team topped the field last weekend during the Eastin Classic in Reno.
Competing primarily against under-18 teams, Lake County dropped its first three games July 25 before storming back to win its final three July 26.
Following losses against Surge Sports Academy, 13-1, NorCal Lady Aces, 13-3, and PNW Shamrock Elite, 6-4, Lake County reeled off consecutive victories against the Campbell Crush, 9-5, Reno Rage, 3-1, and Screaming Eagles, 3-2.
Lake County received contributions from its hitting, pitching and defense to secure a second straight under-18 tournament title. Offensive leaders included Mariah Pruitt, who provided timely hitting throughout the two-day competition, as well as Cali Albaum, Madison Byrne, Kylee Solorio, Addi Vipond, Amelie Dvis, Ashlynn Cruz and Bella Stillman. Davis, who hit six home runs for Clear Lake High during her freshman season last spring, smacked a solo home run in the win over the Campbell Crush.
On defense, the Lake County outfield played a pivotal role throughout the tournament, led by Solorio, Abby Malley, Hayden Perez and Bella Espinosa. Pruitt, Byrne and Albaum anchored the infield, turning several double plays. On the basepaths, Haley Perez provided valuable speed and support in key pinch-running roles.
Stillman sparked the pitching staff, working 26 innings and throwing three complete-game victories. Davis caught all six games.
The team finished the summer season with five home runs. Davis led the way with two while Cruz, Vipond and Stillman each had one.
