FAIRFIELD >> Mendocino College women’s volleyball dropped two non-conference matches Friday against Sacramento City College and Santa Rosa Junior College at Solano College in Fairfield.
Sacramento City College beat Mendocino College 25-23, 22-25, 25-13, 25-17 in the early match and Santa Rosa Junior College defeated the Eagles 25-12, 25-16, 25-15 in the late match.
“They team played really well together minus the third set,” Mendocino assistant coach Marci Psalmonds said. “They hustled and played hard. They even got props from the Sac City coach. She said she was impressed with their scrappiness for such a small team. We had eight players today and they had 15.”
Montana Wells (Clear Lake) led the offense with 10 kills and two blocks while setter Jayden Paulich (Kelseyville) had 23 assists. Other leaders were Stella Hill (Clear Lake) with six kills, 15 digs and five aces, and Aily Chavez (Willits) had four kills, five blocks and 10 digs.
Mendocino College struggled in its second match against Santa Rosa Junior College.
“And the wheels fell off,” Psalmonds said. “Our defense really struggled on getting the serve receive up. We couldn’t get our offense going. You can’t pass, you can’t play.”
Cora Holley (Middletown) led the Eagles with six kills and four blocks while Hill had 15 digs and five kills.
Mendocino College (4-13) is home Wednesday to play Butte College at 2 p.m. and San Francisco City College at 6 p.m. in non-conference action.
