UKIAH >> Mendocino College opened the second half of its Bay Valley Conference volleyball schedule much the same way as it opened the first half, with a win over Marin College, only this time the Eagles needed only three sets, not five, to take the victory Friday night in Ukiah.

“Definitely an improvement from the first time we played them,” Mendocino College coach Kat Edmonds said. “Cora (Holley) had a great night at the net and they couldn’t keep up with her.”

Holley (Middletown) finished 12 kills and two blocks. Brooke Benson (Lower Lake) added three more kills and four blocks as Mendocino won its second straight BVC match to improve to 4-3 in the conference standings.

“The ladies came ready to play and played well the entire three sets,” Edmonds said. “Our strength was our offense. We executed well. I’m proud of them.”

Among the other Middletown leaders were Jayden Paulich (Kelseyville) with 24 assists, nine digs, five aces, two kills and two blocks; Cali Schnabl (Kelseyville) with 17 digs; Makayla Mace (Middletown) with 17 digs, four kills and one ace; and Rylie King (Analy) with six digs and two kills.

Mendocino College hits the road Wednesday to play Los Medanos College at 6 p.m. The Eagles are back home next Friday to play Yuba at 6 p.m.
