Hill’s 11 kills power Eagles in three-set sweep; Chavez serves up seven aces

SAN PABLO >> The Mendocino College volleyball team went on the attack Wednesday night against Contra Costa College, winning 25-15, 25-13, 25-10 in Bay Valley Conference action at San Pablo.
Stella Hill (Clear Lake) led the way with 11 kills, Montana Wells (Clear Lake) added seven kills, Cora Holley (Middletown) had five kills and Aily Chavez (Willits) four kills as the Eagles improved to 3-4 in conference play and 9-19 overall.
Hill also finished with seven digs and four aces while Holley had three blocks. Chavez led the team with seven aces.
“The team played well together tonight,” Mendocino College head coach Kat Edmonds said. “We had a strong defense and a well-rounded offense.”
Mendocino College rallied from a 12-6 deficit in the second set, outscoring Contra Costa 19-1 to win 25-13.
Chavez led the team from the service line in the third set.
“Aily had a great night at the service line in the third set where she got all her seven aces,” Edmonds said.
Other Mendocino College leaders were Maddy Brewster (Clear Lake) with 12 digs, three kills and one ace, Jayden Paulich (Kelseyville) with 28 assists, six digs, three kills and one ace, and Breanna Pyzer (Middletown) with eight digs and two aces.
Mendocino College was scheduled to host Yuba College on Friday, but that match has been postponed because of injuries to Yuba players. The Eagles’ next scheduled match is Wednesday at home against Los Medanos at 6 p.m.
