MIDDLETOWN >> In a North Central League I boys soccer race that couldn’t have been much closer, the Lower Lake Trojans cost the Middletown Mustangs a share of the title with a 4-2 victory on Tuesday in Middletown.
Middletown (7-2-1 league) entered the final game of the regular season tied with Fort Bragg (8-1-1) for the NCL I lead, just a half game ahead of Lower Lake (8-2). All three teams will be advancing to the North Coast Section Division I playoffs beginning Wednesday. At-large teams and seeding take place Sunday when first-round pairing will be announced.
Middletown’s only two league losses this season came to Lower Lake, which lost its two games to Fort Bragg. Middletown went 1-0-1 against the champion Timberwolves.
