Lady Mustangs finish league play with 2-1 victory, headed to playoffs next week

MIDDLETOWN >> Ally Cherry and Diana Montes scored goals to lift the Middletown Mustangs to a 2-1 win over the Lower Lake Trojans in the North Central League I finale for both teams Tuesday night in Middletown.
Middletown ends up 5-4-1 in league play and tied with Clear Lake for second place in the NCL I standings behind champion Willits (8-1-1). All three teams will be moving on to the North Coast Section Division 1 playoffs beginning Wednesday. At-large teams will be selected and the field seeded Sunday when first-round pairings will be announced.
“This puts us into the playoffs,” Middletown head coach Lee Hoage said.
Middletown finishes the regular season 7-8-1. Lower Lake closes out its season 3-7 in league and 6-11-1 overall.
