M’town girls shut out Willits

Montes, Alcantar score goals in 2-0 league victory

MIDDLETOWN >> Diana Montes scored on a penalty kick in the first half and Bella Alcantar added an insurance goal in the second half as the Middletown Mustangs shut out the Willits Wolverines 2-0 in North Central League I girls soccer action Tuesday in Middletown.

Montes was tackled in the box leading up to her penalty kick that put Middletown (3-3 league) ahead to stay. Cora “Coco” Crick had the assist on Alcantar’s goal.

“She flicked lobbed it over the keeper for a goal,” Middletown head coach Lee Hoage said of Alcantar’s shot.

Hoage praised his defense in the shutout win.

“We hold on with multiple shots from Willits,” Hoage said. “Keeper Ally Cherry had several good saves.”

Middletown hosts Clear Lake on Thursday.
