St. Helena runners top field at NCL I meet

Middletown’s Ren Ueno, Kelseyville’s Aylin Aguilar post best county times

KELSEYVILLE >> St. Helena High School’s boys and girls cross country teams scored victories Wednesday during a North Central League I meet at the 3-mile Clear Lake State Park course near Kelseyville.

In boys scoring, St. Helena edged out Fort Bragg 49-51. Middletown came in third with 60 and Willits had 63. No other schools had complete teams (five or more runners).

In girls scoring, St. Helena (32), Kelseyville (40) and Middletown (53) were the only complete teams.

Boys

Cole Lane of Willits won in a course-record time of 18 minutes, 26 seconds, placing 30 seconds ahead of Fort Bragg’s Johann Garcia Blanco (18:56) and more than a minute of third-place finisher Charlie Watson (19:30) of St. Helena.

Middletown’s Ren Ueno ended up fourth in the 47-runner field with a time of 19:39. He was followed across the finish line by Olympus Dodd of St. Helena, fifth in 20:04, and Middletown’s Landon Pisaro, sixth in 20:32. Isael Haro of Middletown rounded out the top 10 at 20:58.

Among other Lake County runners in the field, the top finishers were Kelseyville’s Maverick Wilson, 14th in 21:45; Kelseyville’s Jacob Parker, 19th in 22:13; and Gerardo Rodriguez of Middletown, 20th in 22:22.

Girls

Corinna Schlatter continued her domination among NCL I girls, winning by more than three minutes with a time of 20:58. Malia McGrath of Cloverdale (24:02) was the runner-up while Elizabeth Silva of Cloverdale placed third in 24:35. Aylin Aguilar (25:46) of Kelseyville came in fourth and Penny Williams (27:40) of St. Helena came in fifth.

Cracking the top 10 were Lake County runners Alivia Stark of Middletown, seventh in 28:04; Angela Martin of Lower Lake, eighth in 28:45; and Rebecca Sanchez of Kelseyville, ninth in 28:47.

Other top Lake County finishers were Nala Montgomery of Middletown, 13th in 29:46; Ellie Galvin of Upper Lake, 16th in 30:29; Skylar Olson Zepeda of Kelseyville, 18th in 31:01; Lupita Cabrera of Middletown, 19th in 31:28; and Aubrey Wiser of Kelseyville, 20th in 32:55.

The field featured 32 runners.

The final NCL I race is next Wednesday at Highland Springs outside of Lakeport beginning at 3:30 p.m.

The Coastal Mountain Conference Championships, which includes NCL I and NCL II runners, is Thursday, Nov. 6 at Spring Lake in Santa Rosa. The junior varsity boys race starts at 1:30 p.m., the varsity girls follow at 2:15 p.m., and the varsity boys race at 3 p.m.
