LOWER LAKE >> Kameron Richardson scored five touchdowns and an extra point Saturday as the Lower Lake pee wee youth football team improved to 6-1 on the season with a 34-0 win over Kelseyville at Gordon Sadler Field.
The Trojans remain one game behind undefeated Westshore (7-0) in the Mendo-Lake Empire Junior Football League standings.
Richardson set the tone earlier. Moments after the Lower Lake defense opened the game by forcing Kelseyville into a three-and-out, Richardson returned the punt for a touchdown. He also finished the game with 161 rushing yards on 11 carries.
Other key members of the offense also performed well. Quarterback Freddie Jeffries ran for 31 yards and completed a conversion pass to Brantley Paminto. Brian Patrick added 19 rushing yards while Wyatt Hooten added 13 rushing yards and an extra point.
On the defensive side, Paminto and Isiah Dominguez each had three solo tackles, and Paminto had a solo sack as well as a half-sack along with Ean Walsh. Jeffries also forced a fumble that Richardson recovered.
“I love how we never get more than three or four solo tackles because of our team tackling,” Lower Lake head coach Daniel Hooten said. “Everybody responds to the call. These kids are on a mission. They are having fun their hard work is paying off. We are a bunch of proud coaches.”
Lower Lake travels to Cloverdale (1-5-1) on Saturday for a 4 p.m. game. The junior varsity follows at 5:30 p.m. with the varsity kickoff off at 7:30 p.m.
