Team quickly recovers from 8-0 to beat Atletico Santa Rosa
LAKEPORT >> Battling back from 8-0 road loss Sunday against the Napa United Academy, the Konocti United girls soccer team recovered nicely with a 3-2 win over Atletico Santa Rosa on Sunday in Lakeport.
Kat Wheelan scored twice and Jacky Chavez had the other goal for Konocti United, her first of the season.
Konocti United had just one sub on its bench for the second day in a row.
“We were able to manage the substitutions better with no one getting injured until the end,” Konocti United head coach Irma Rodriguez said. “It was a close game towards the end because Atletico Santa Rosa was really trying to win this game. They came back and scored their second goal with 15 minutes remaining in the game, but Konocti was able to stop them.”
Added Rodriguez, “I have to give credit to the defense. Mya Ogo, Vanessa Reyes, Xiomara Arias and Arionna Sanderson.”
Konocti United had a much tougher time Saturday against Napa.
“Yesterday was a really rough loss,” Rodriguez said. “Napa definitely has a gold bracket team. With a couple of our players still out due to injury and illness, we only had one sub and then ended with two more players coming off the field and playing with 10. The girls just felt defeated towards the end of the game. We just couldn’t bring them back up. It was rough and upsetting, but no matter the outcome I am still proud of them.”
Konocti United travels to Corte Madera next Sunday.
