M’town runners compete in Viking Opener

Murray, Barriga post team’s top times in top races

SANTA ROSA >> Middletown High School cross country runners set a bunch of personal bests Saturday while competing in the Viking Opener at the 2-mile Spring Lake course in Santa Rosa.

In the featured races, Quinn Murray placed 26th in the senior boys run while Cat Barriga came in 24th in the senior/junior girls run. Murray crossed the finish line in 11 minutes, 57.5 seconds. Other top Mustangs were Bryan Sanchez, 35th in 12:25.6 (personal best), Caden Gotz, 45th in 13:23.4 (personal best), and Isaac Lozada, 46th in 13:28.0 (personal best).

Middletown, the smallest school in the field, placed eighth out of 11 teams.

Ome Zuniga of Santa Rosa High School posted the best time in the 70-runner field at 10:15.6.

Barriga’s time of 14:27.5 led the Middletown field in senior/junior girls race. Bailey Smith was close behind in 27th place at 14:36.0 (personal best), Nala Montgomery came in 30th at 14:48.4, Jennifer Jimenez was 43rd in 16:00.2 (personal best), and Alivia Start was 55th in 17:54.0 (personal best).

Middletown finished eighth out of 11 teams.

Amrie Lacefield of Montgomery won the race in 11:38.7.

Junior boys

Damien Rudy of Middletown finished 59th in 15:56.6 and Mason Broussard was 63rd in 18:46 (personal best).

Sophomore boys

Ren Ueno of Middletown placed 13th out of 70 runners in 11:55.39 (personal best) and Isael Haro was 25th in 12:24.33 (personal best). My Nguyen came in 62nd in 15:06.19.

Freshman boys

Middletown’s Landon Pisaro placed 20th in the freshman boys race, clocking in at 12:18.16 (personal best). Gerardo Rodriguez was 67th in 15:07.21 (personal best).

Open boys

Aiden Cadwallader of Middletown finished 23rd out of 70 runners in 13:44.2 while Zacai Chavez was 31st in 14:11.8 (personal best). Marlon Martin Del Campo came in 59th in 16:25.5.

Frosh/soph girls

Lupita Cabrera of Middletown placed 67th in 15:55.3 and Nayeli Negrete Perales was 68th in 18:12.6 (personal best).

Open girls

Krystal Ocken of Middletown finished 50th in 19:34.3 (personal best).

Schedule

Middletown resumes its Coastal Mountain Conference on Wednesday in Kelseyville at 3:30 p.m.
