Mustangs compete in Carmichael Tournament on Saturday

CARMICHAEL >> Middletown High School’s varsity volleyball team split four matches Saturday at the Carmichael Tournament, winning the first two in straight sets and dropping the next two in straight sets.

“Good exposure to some tough teams from the Sacramento area,” Middletown head coach Norberto Quiroz said.

The Mustangs (11-6) took care of business in their early matches, knocking off Westlake Christian 25-11, 25-23 and Victory Christian 25-9, 25-9. Durham handed Middletown its first tournament loss, 25-19, 25-19, and Salesian (Richmond) followed with a 25-17, 25-18 win over the Mustangs.

Middletown tournament leaders were Carly Johnson with 29 points and 20 kills, Isa Barnes with 64 assists and 13 aces, Mia Hoogendoorn with 24 kills, and Makayla Mace with 22 kills.

The Mustangs return to action Tuesday at Lower Lake for a North Central League I contest. Both teams bring 0-2 league records into the match. Junior varsity action begins at 5 p.m.
