LOWER LAKE >> “The Battle of the Lake” trophy goes to the Lower Lake Trojans, who won all three of their Mendo-Lake Empire Junior Football League games with the Northshore Cougars on Saturday at Gordon Sadler Field in Lower Lake, including a 33-20 victory in the varsity game.

Roy Percoats scored four straight touchdowns for Lower Lake. In addition to a 71-yard kickoff return that put the Trojans ahead 14-7 at halftime, Percoats rushed for three more touchdowns in the second half.

Ismael Orozco put the Trojans on the scoreboard first with an 82-yard kickoff return to open the game. He also kicked the conversion, which counts as two points in youth football, to give Lower Lake an 8-0 lead. Northshore answered with a touchdown drive to close to 8-7, but Percoats returned the ensuing kickoff for a score to put Lower Lake back on top.

“Our offensive line did a good job for us all night,” Lower Lake coach Mark Garner said. “They definitely led the way.”

Orozco anchored Lower Lake’s defense with 11 tackles.

“Cornerback Wyatt Chalecki also had an outstanding night on defense,” Garner said. “He has really developed as a player and a leader for us this season.”

Lower Lake has a bye week this coming weekend while Northshore (2-1) returns home Saturday to play Fort Bragg at 7:30 p.m.

“The Battle of the Lake” trophy is decided by who wins at least two out of the three games between the Lower Lake and Northshore pee wees, junior varsity and varsity teams. The Trojans won all three games this year. The pee wees beat Northshore 34-0 and the JVs won 26-25.
