Clear Lake, Kelseyville collide in league opener Thursday in Kelseyville

LAKEPORT >> Hailey Perez, Haylie Garcia and Sellena Carbajal all scored goals as the undefeated Clear Lake High School girls soccer team blanked Calistoga 3-0 in non-league action Wednesday evening in Lakeport.
Perez opened the scoring in the first half with an assist from teammate Garcia, then Garcia scored to give the Cardinals (6-0-1) a 2-0 halftime lead. Carbajal capped the scoring in the second half.
“The girls did amazing work today,” Clear Lake head coach Gustavo Carbajal said. “We played all of our players, and they all worked very hard.”
It was Clear Lake’s fifth shutout of the season. The Cardinals have outscored the competition 19-2 this year, and both goals allowed came on penalty kicks.
The win sets the stage for the Cardinals’ North Central League I opener on Thursday in Kelseyville against the 6-1-1 Knights. Clear Lake handed Kelseyville its lone loss, 2-0, back on Aug. 18 in Kelseyville. The Knights are the defending NCL I champions.
The Kelseyville-Clear Lake game starts at 4:30 p.m. with the varsity boys to follow.
