FORT BRAGG >> The Kelseyville Knights scored their first points of the season even though the offense was shut out in an 8-6 loss to the previously winless Fort Bragg Timberwolves in North Central League I varsity football action Friday night at Timberwolf Stadium.
Logan Farfan-Boyles’ 40-yard interception return for a touchdown in the second quarter had Kelseyville (0-1 league, 0-2 overall) out in front until the Timberwolves, shut out in their previous two games, finally scored with 1:41 left in the game. They added the two-point conversion to push in front 8-6.
Kelseyville had time enough for a final possession but couldn’t do anything with it. A fourth-down pass was intercepted before the Timberwolves ran out the final 49 seconds.
Fort Bragg (1-1, 1-3) had scored only six points in its first three games, but the eight they scored against Kelseyville was enough to spoil the Knights’ league opener.
Kelseyville lost senior running back Michael DeJohn, who rushed for 50 yards, to an injury during the game. Quarterback Max Lee led the team with 56 yards on the ground and was 7-for-18 passing for 62 yards.
Adrian Garcia anchored the defense with 13 total tackles, including six solo stops. Farfan-Boyles had nine tackles to go along with his pick-six interception, and Gordon Astrup also had nine tackles. Miles Gambria and Andrew Souza had six tackles apiece.
Kelseyville’s junior varsity team managed a 6-6 tie with Fort Bragg. Deake Lyndall’s 16-yard touchdown pass to Carson Stone accounted for the Knights’ lone score. Case Pivniska rushed for a team-best 79 yards and also blocked the point-after kick following Fort Bragg’s touchdown.
Lyndall led the Knights with eight tackles and Aurelius Santos had six, including a sack. Pivniska and Angel Ruiz finished six tackles apiece, Ethan Wheeler had five and a fumble recovery, and Lucas Anderson-Reyes had four, including a sack.
Kelseyville is 0-0-1 in league and 0-1-1 overall.
Kelseyville’s teams host St. Helena next Friday. The varsity Saints (2-0, 4-0) are off to their best start since winning their first eight games in 2015. JV action kicks off at 5 p.m.
