Eagles play Siskiyous, College of the Redwoods in non-conference action at Ukiah

UKIAH >> Mendocino College split its two volleyball matches Friday against College of the Siskiyous and College of the Redwoods at Mendocino College in Ukiah.

Mendocino College fell 25-19, 25-22, 22-25, 27-25 to Siskiyous in its first match before coming back to beat College of the Redwood 25-20, 25-19, 25-12 later in the day.

“We came up short but the girls played great and they are really starting to play together,” Mendocino College head coach Kat Edmonds said after the loss to Siskiyous. “Cali Schnabl and Ava Diaz really came through on defense. They picked up a lot of hard hits and were all over the place covering.”

Schnabl (Kelseyville) finished with 16 digs while Jayden Paulich (Kelseyville) had 37 assists, four digs and four kills. Other Middletown leaders were Briana Sanchez (Ukiah) with four kills and three digs, Cora Holley (Middletown) with 15 kills and two aces, Emily Gersalia (Clear Lake) with 16 digs, Makayla Mace (Middletown) with 15 kills and 15 digs, Kayden Paullus (Willits) with four aces and two digs, Brooke Benson (Lower Lake) with six kills and two solo blocks, and Ava Diaz (Ukiah) with eight digs.

Clear Lake High alum Quincy Paarsch played for Siskiyous.

In Mendocino’s straight-set win over Redwoods, Holley posted a season-high 17 kills followed by Mace with a season-high 15 kills.

“Our offense really stepped it up and crushed the ball,” Edmonds said.

Other Mendocino leaders were Paulich with 32 assists and four digs, Briana Davis (Kelseyville) with five kills and two digs, Gersalia with eight digs, Diza with nine digs, Benson with three kills and one solo block, and Paullus with four aces.

Kelseyville alum Olivia Hommer played for Redwoods.

Mendocino College hits the road Tuesday to play Shasta College at 1 p.m.
